David was born in the Isle of Wight in 1929. His boyhood was spent in Mill Hill, London, where he started painting at the age of ten and by sixteen he was exhibiting his work. He worked for a while on a farm and during this time studied art at Willesden College, all the while painting the English Countryside with his trademark style of sunshine and shadows. By the age of 25, painting became his sole profession. He regularly exhibits in Philadelphia, and other cities in the USA. His work is held in public and private collections as far afield as Australia, Hawaii, Tokyo and Argentina. David lives with his wife Meg in a gamekeepers lodge deep in the countryside.
